Located in a picturesque suburb of Montgomery, AL, Tallassee has a strong sense of community, and comes out in full force for every football game, band performance and the annual spring musical. Rich in history and tradition, Tallassee benefits from its proximity to both Auburn and Tuskegee Universities. If you ask, residents call Tallassee a great place to call home.
When three women, who were members of a Tallassee Bible study group learned about Sew Powerful, they felt it was a great way to use sewing as a mission outreach. And so, the Tabitha’s Topstitchers Chapter was born expanding their membership to include even more local women. The Chapter’s name was chosen to honor Tabitha, (or Dorcas in Greek), a charitable woman in Biblical times, who made clothing for the needy. She was revered for her good works and acts of love for the poor. Read about Tabitha in Acts 9:36-42, where the Apostle Peter raised her from the dead.
The Opelika Sewing Center, near Auburn, AL and the First Baptist Church in Tallassee have been supporters of the Tabitha’s Topstitchers Chapter, where you might find the members at the quilt show organized annually by the Tallassee Quilt Guild. Those living in Dadeville, Eclectic, Wetumpka, Reeltown, Tuskegee and everywhere in Tallapoosa County are welcome to learn more about this Chapter.
