September 2025

  • September 1 – September 30 (Monday - Tuesday) | Sew-A-Thon 2025 Purse Making. Annual Sew Powerful celebration of National Sewing Month asks our enrolled Sew-A-Thon participants to challenge themselves to make as many Sew Powerful purses as they can during September. Each purse helps a girl in Zambia stay in school because the purse is filled with feminine hygiene supplies, soap, and underwear. While Sew Powerful purse makers sew purses all year long, September is a month we all sew with extra zeal to support the Sew-A-Thon. Awards and special recognitions for top purse makers. Purse makers who also raise $100 or more in the fundraising portion of the Sew-A-Thon, qualify for the prize drawing in October.

 

  • September 19-20 (Friday - Saturday) Auburn, California: | Stars of the Foothills, Parkside Church, 3885 Richardson Dr, Auburn, CA. Say hello to Jason & Cinnamon, drop off your purses, and support Sew Powerful by purchasing donated merch. Funds raised at the show help cover operational costs for Sew Powerful.   • September 27-28 (Saturday-Sunday) San Jose, California | Santa Clara Quilt Guild Show, 521 Charcot Ave, San Jose, CA 95131. Say hello to Sew Powerful volunteers, drop off your purses, and support Sew Powerful by purchasing donated merch. Funds raised at the show help cover operational costs for Sew Powerful.   • September 30 (Tuesday) | Last Day for Sew-A-Thon Donations to be Credited to Participants. Last day to enroll and for enrolled Sew-A-Thon Participants to have raised funds counted toward prize eligibility. See Sew-A-Thon Rules and Guidelines to learn how prizes will be awarded. Friends and family can continue to donate to Sew Powerful beyond this date, but their donations will not contribute to participants’ totals.

October 2025

  • October 3 - 13 (Friday-Monday) | Fall Donor Trip to Zambia. Enrolled participants will join Jason and Cinnamon Miles as they lead the group on the trip of a lifetime to Zambia Africa. Meet the seamstresses, participate in purse distributions, walk through the backyard gardens, explore the 3 Esthers Farm, travel in-country to Livingstone to meet our team, experience Victoria Falls, and spend a half-day on a drive-through Safari.     October 9-12 (Thursday - Sunday) | Houston Quilt Festival, Houston, TX. Held earlier than in the past, the HQF is one of the nation’s largest and oldest Quilt Shows, marking its 50thanniversary this year. Be sure to visit the Sew Powerful booth for your chance to see spectacular purses on display and to support Sew Powerful by buying donated merch sold at deep discounts. For more fun, volunteer to work a couple of shifts to meet other volunteers and share the Sew Powerful experience with show visitors. For more information, contact raquelj@sewpowerful.org.

     

    October 17 (Thursday) | Sew-A-Thon Final Results. Join the Sew Powerful Live event on Facebook or YouTube to hear the final results of the 2025 Sew-A-Thon. Learn how many purses were made and total funds raised. Stay tuned for the live awarding of the prizes.

     

    October 16 - 18 (Thursday - Saturday) | OSQE Cincinnati, OH. Show Manager needed to organize volunteer booth workers, arrange merch, and oversee set-up and tear-down. Merch for sale in the booth will be provided by Sew Powerful. Quilt Shows are a great way to tell the Sew Powerful story to quilters looking to use their stash for a good cause. Quilt Shows also raise funds to help cover operational costs of Sew Powerful. For more information, contact raquelj@sewpowerful.org.

     

    October 29 (Wednesday) | Quarterly Chapter Leaders Meeting, via Zoom. Time: 3:00 PM Pacific/6:00 PM Eastern. Both veteran and new Chapter Leaders are encouraged to attend our Quarterly meeting. It will be a time of sharing and learning from each other. Bring your tips, questions, and enthusiasm. The meetings are fun, informal get-togethers with others who share your interests and desire to optimize the Chapter experience for yourself and your members.
