I Read Every Single Word

I Read Every Single Word

By Theresa Dellaport—Golden, Colorado

I belong to a soap-making online forum. A member on that forum posted the Sew Powerful story and expressed her admiration of the program on July 2, 2015. I was so moved by the story, that I read every single word on their website, and looked at the pictures of the girls from Zambia over and over again.

I am an avid sewer and I am always looking for projects. I am also involved in quite a bit of charity work and found the purse project a wonderful fit for my hobby. I downloaded the purse pattern and made my first purse in about half of a day. It took me awhile to understand the directions; and I was very impressed at the simplicity, yet elegance, of the pattern.

I used up several of pieces of my fabric stash, and I was soon scouring the local fabric stores for remnants. I found many really wonderful fabrics and was very excited to match colorful and interesting fabrics together for the purse and the lining. Soon I was making several purses on the weekends.

I ended up making 24 purses, and shipped them off to Washington before the fall deadline, hoping my small contribution would make a difference in some young girl’s life. I am still making purses and will continue to do so as long as there is a need.
