Sew for Charity

Dallas, TX

Please Join Us in Dallas, TX

Dallas may be home to the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the State Fair of Texas, but our Sew My Dream Chapter, may soon outshine them all. The Sew My Dream Chapter meets in the very creative studio, Dallas Designing Dreams, which has been very generous in their support of Sew Powerful. While they host monthly Chapter meetings, they also conduct "Giving Saturday" events where volunteers mass produce purses during that same day. The Chapter works with various local artists, C. Adele Creations, and South Side on Lamar.

Non-sewers are welcomed to participate by making cards, praying over the bags and volunteers. Volunteers are welcomed to sew from home or at "Giving Saturday" events.

This very active Chapter welcomes members from Dallas, DeSoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Midlothian, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Plano, Frisco, Allen, Garland, Rowlett, Rockwall, Mesquite, and other areas of the DFW metroplex.

How You Can Make a Difference

The purses you make will be gifted to schoolgirls in the African country of Zambia. The purses will be filled with reusable feminine hygiene supplies, soap, and underwear so the girl can attend school all month. Sew Powerful hires adults in Zambia living in extreme poverty. They are trained and paid a living wage to make the contents of the purses. The result is a triple benefit:

  • Schoolgirls have a chance to excel in their studies and complete their education.
  • Adults earn wages to feed, clothe, and house their families, giving them dignity and hope.
  • Volunteers use their talents to make purses bringing them immeasurable joy knowing their efforts have changed lives.

Sew Powerful Purse Program

Our annual Sew Powerful Purse program enables girls to stay in school. Purses are made and sent to Zambia as gifts. The local seamstresses in Zambia make re-usable hygiene pads and together they are provided to girls as part of health (MHM) training. Get Involved
