Squandered Grace – The Story of Samson

The tale of Samsom is a cautionary lesson in the exercise of free will

ABOUT THIS PARABLE

  • Concept: The Biblical story of Samson, found in the Bible’s book of Judges, is a tragic tale. Samson was set apart for God from birth, as told to his parents by the visitation of an angel. Samson was gifted with incredible physical strength; yet plagued by an impetuous and self-pleasing nature. Although used by God for His purposes, Samson’s tale is a tragic one.
  • Story Origin: The Bible – Judges 13:1 through 16:31
  • Setting: Old Testament Israel and surrounding region
  • Precept(s):
    • Although Samson was set apart by God as a Nazarite, he still exercised free will in his decision making.
    • Samson’s free will decisions were often self centered and self-pleasing.
    • Samson’s impetuous and violent reactions to circumstances often led to more violence and tragedy.
    • We need to learn the lessons Samson’s example sets for us.
