ABOUT THIS PARABLE

  • Concept:A junior high boy’s crush on a girl becomes fodder for teasing by his classmates. As a result, he vows to emulate creatures that can retreat into a shell to protect themselves. Through the loving and humorous encouragement of his mother, he finds the strength to not allow any bully to steal his God given joy.

    • God did not create us to disconnect from our emotions.
    • ”Retreating” for a time can be emotionally healthy, but always with the goal of reemerging in joy.

He is a Charter Board member for the nonprofit organization Sew Powerful, where he lends his expertise to further their mission of combating extreme poverty by training, equipping and empowering women and girls in the developing world. Dana resides in the greater Seattle area with his wife Grace and their neurotic cat. They have two children, Jared and Alyssa, and Alyssa is married to son-in-law, Ivan.
